A B O U T
The Rum and Coke Collective is a group of theater artists devoted to the creation and development of new works and re-imaginings of theater classics. By using a dedicated group of artists, we aim to build unique, memorable, and devastatingly powerful new plays.
History-wise, there's not so much a date that this started as there is a point where it became completely inevitable, kind of like an event horizon of theatre. But if you must have a date, on June 15th, 2010, a group of us met in a cabin in the woods in the middle of Ohio and read five fresh, new scripts. After a long night of talking, reading, drinking, and living, we were besieged by thunderstorms. And then this happened:
That's right, a giant statue of Jesus doing the touchdown dance was hit by lightning and set ablaze while we were working. Taking this as either an omen or a sign, we continued to meet, develop and build these new plays, adding collaborators and artists, shaping the future of our work. In 2010, a few of us found ourselves working together in Kansas City, Missouri. Things didn't suck. Then, like a long line of lost lemmings heading towards a lake, we all migrated to a windy city where we found each other and decided to give this puppy a go. Our numbers have grown, there were only seven of us that first night, and I'd like to think that we've learned a few things since then (mostly how to not build your giant statues out of flammable material, but whatever). So, take a look around. If you'd like to see when our next show is, just check out current production. Want to get in contact with us? Just head to the contact section. It's that easy.
We're thrilled you're here. If you need anything at all, just ask. We hope to see you soon.

* In case you're wondering, that whole Jesus/Statue/Fire thing did happen. True story. I'd site my sources, but then I remembered that I don't have to.
